Glass Balustrade Panels in Chelmsford

Chelmsford Glass Balustrades supplies and installs glass balustrade panels for staircases, landings, balconies, and outdoor guarding across Chelmsford and the wider Essex commuter belt.
Glass panels are the infill element of a balustrade. They fill the space between a top handrail and a base rail or floor channel. The glass replaces timber spindles, metal bars, or older glass with a clean surface.

Glass Panel Installation Types
Stair Infill Panels
The most common domestic application in Chelmsford. Glass panels are measured and cut to fill each bay precisely, fixed at the base with a bottom rail or stringer clamps. The result modernises the staircase without a complete rebuild.
Glass specification: 10mm toughened safety glass to BS EN 12150 as standard for framed infill panels.
Landing Panels
Landing balustrade panels are rectangular. Building Regulations Part K requires landing and mezzanine guarding to be at least 1,100mm high. See our glass balustrade staircases page for combined staircase and landing systems.
Juliet Balcony Replacement
Glass Juliet balconies occasionally need panel replacement after impact damage or specification upgrade. We supply replacement panels cut to match existing frame dimensions. See our Juliet balcony installation page for full system detail.
Outdoor and Deck Panels
Outdoor balustrade panels use grade 316 stainless steel bottom rails and top sections. See our decking balustrades page for fixing methods on composite and timber deck frames.
Frameless Structural Panels
For fully frameless systems, the glass panel is the structural element. The specification is significantly heavier. See our frameless glass balustrades page for channel-fixed and spigot-mounted systems.

Glass Specifications Explained
Understanding which glass to specify matters for safety and Building Regulations compliance.

10mm Toughened Monolithic
Standard for framed infill panels where the frame carries the structural load. Meets BS EN 12150.
13.5mm Toughened Laminated
Retains integrity after breakage. The interlayer holds both panes. For frameless, overhead, and balcony positions. Meets BS EN ISO 12543.
17.5mm Toughened Laminated
Standard for spigot-mounted outdoor systems with 900mm to 1,100mm panel height.
21.5mm Toughened Laminated
For channel-fixed frameless glass balustrade systems carrying the full structural load. Required by BS 6180.
We always specify the correct glass at survey. Using under-specified glass creates a compliance risk.
