Glass Balustrade Clamps in Chelmsford

Chelmsford Glass Balustrades designs and installs spigot-mounted glass balustrade systems across Chelmsford and the wider Essex commuter belt. Glass balustrade clamps, commonly called spigots, are the point-fix hardware that anchor glass panels to a deck, floor, or stringer.
The grade of stainless steel and the load rating of the clamp body both affect long-term performance. We do not use generic import hardware. All our spigot systems use certified products from established European manufacturers.

Types of Glass Balustrade Clamps
Surface-Mount Spigots
Surface-mount spigots bolt directly onto the face of a deck, terrace, or floor. The spigot body sits proud of the surface. This is the simplest installation approach: no core drilling required, the fixing is entirely visible and accessible.
Surface-mount spigots are the most common choice for composite and timber decking balustrades across Chelmsford.
Fascia-Mount Spigots
Fascia-mount spigots fix to the vertical face of a deck fascia. The glass panel overhangs the deck edge, creating a cleaner sightline from the decking surface. Fascia-mount systems are popular on elevated rear decks in Danbury and Writtle.
Core-Drilled Spigots
Core-drilled spigots are set into the floor or deck surface. A circular core is drilled and the spigot is seated flush. This creates the most minimal surface-level appearance. Core-drilled spigots suit premium patio and terrace projects.
Post-Mounted Clamp Systems
Vertical posts are fixed to the deck at intervals and glass panels are clamped to the post faces using adjustable clamp bodies. This suits longer runs and retrofit applications. For indoor staircase applications, see our staircase balustrade installers page.

Stainless Steel Grades for Clamps
Not all stainless steel performs equally in an outdoor Essex environment.

Grade 304 Stainless Steel
The standard grade used in most domestic hardware. Contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Performs well in dry indoor environments. Will show surface corrosion in sustained damp conditions. Specified only for internal applications.
Grade 316 Marine Stainless
Contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum significantly improves resistance to chloride-induced pitting corrosion. We specify grade 316 as standard for all external installations.
Coastal Properties
For properties close to the Essex coast, including Maldon, Mersea Island, and south Essex near the Thames Estuary, grade 316 is non-negotiable. Salt-laden coastal air drives corrosion in grade 304 hardware within months.
